Hearts Are Not Control Systems.

New manic modular mid-week music.

One shouldn’t be unkind to one’s creations.

So, last - and by no means least - from Four Track Originals Vol. 3 (still available to download, people!) is ‘Hearts Are Not Control Systems’.

But, if you permit me, for a moment I’m going to be a little bit unfair about this one, as I don’t really know what it means or what it represents. Musicians and composers are supposed to make this sort of thing up and pretend there’s a great plan and narrative to their art, but this one - no.

It started as a virtual synth modular experiment, fusing Thom Yorke solo stylings with Boards of Canada and trying to come up with something musical via beeps and blobs. It sounds a little like all of that in the end, and ultimately what we’ve got is an odd electronica piece which, in certain circumstances with a payload of illegal substances, might make you want to… dance?

I make no judgments.

As a piece, it had one of those creative long gestations where the original, including its pseudo self-help song title, was started ages ago, before being parked in the WTF musical car park for a couple of months, then finally dusted down, morphing into something quite different. That’s the way it goes sometimes.

This slightly dance-y element did suggest a bit of a rave-y video, and once again, the Artlist crew came up with the footage goods. I want to shout Acceeeed!, but that would be showing my age.

Enjoy, dance and - be kind.
